Description: The Issam fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs and the Political Science and Public Administration department held the first lecture series on the United Nations in the Region and Global entitled: "Debating the UN Security Council: The UN's Role, Experience and Interest" by Nick Hopton, Deputy Director and Head of International Organizations Department, British Foreign & Commonwealth Office since April 2008. He has particular expertise in international, EU and security policy. He joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1989 and was posted to Rabat (1991-95), Rome (2000-2003) and Paris, where he was Counselor for EU and Economic Affairs (2003-2007) working closely with the French President and Prime Minister’s offices. In London he has worked in No 10 Downing Street and also led the team producing the UK’s first National Security Strategy White Paper in the Cabinet Office. Previously, he was Private Secretary to four Ministers for Europe in the FCO (1998-2000).
